The Setup
This one had been brewing for days. We’d just come off two strong chases to start the season, both successful, both energizing, and confidence was high as we geared up for the third. It was still very early in the year, but the atmosphere didn’t seem to care.
Our initial target was Danville, Illinois, where a warm, unstable air mass had settled in, unusually potent for late March. Storms were expected to form and quickly organize into supercells, eventually merging into a fast-moving broken line sweeping across the state.
